Coolidge Corner Yoga co-founder, Tatyana Souza, has been a scientist most of her adult life. After completing her PhD in immunology in 2006, Tatyana served as a senior scientist at Pfizer for six years, where she worked on forwarding drug research in an effort to help those who needed healing. During that time Tatyana also discovered the magic of yoga when she stumbled into a Forrest yoga class while newly pregnant with her first son, Nikka. From that moment forward, Tatyana became a dedicated practitioner, seeking her yoga mat not only for a full body workout but also for revitalization, serenity, adventure, play, and introspection. As a scientist, Tatyana began to realize that yoga offers much more than a workout; in fact, its benefits may even be stronger than chemical drugs. When people begin practicing yoga, they start to pay attention to their bodies. With this mind-body connection activated, it becomes very simple to make choices that lead to a healthier life. In this way, many ailments and stresses can be avoided altogether.
Excited to spread the benefits of this practice with others, Tatyana completed her 200-hour yoga teacher training at Back Bay Yoga in 2011 and became a registered teacher with Yoga Alliance. She has been teaching in the Boston community ever since. It was Tatyana’s dream and vision to bring a yoga studio to the Brookline community, to provide a sanctuary where families can begin to nurture their bodies and take care of themselves, thus combating stress and preventing any associated disease.
In Tatyana’s classes, students can expect to find intelligent and stimulating sequencing, playful postures that will challenge your boundaries, and gentle hands-on assists, all to the backdrop of a chill and funky playlist.
Tatyana believes that yoga builds physical strength, muscle fluidity, suppleness, and length, while also initiating a deep connection to yourself. Through that connection you gain the courage to be your authentic self and to live your life to its infinite potential. This freedom results in immense happiness, which, in turn, becomes love and compassion for the surrounding world.
Mentorship will include:
• Advanced vinyasa sequencing
• Universal alignment principles and a refined understanding of posture in theory and practice
• Yoga philosophy, including a study of the limbs of yoga (yamas and niyamas) and how to live the practice and weave the philosophy into your teaching, practice, and daily life
• Chakra centers and how to sequence for specific chakra balance
• Seeing bodies, advanced assists, and modifications for all bodies, including advanced prop usage and modifications for common injuries
• Effective cueing, refining your voice as a teacher, and using your voice as a vehicle
• Monthly business checks-ins and support from your community to continue to grow your career (You'll be given homework and challenges between sessions.)
• A unique aspect of our mentorship program will be a professional practicum. Unlike the practicum you passed to graduate from YTT, by the time you begin mentorship you will have logged some teaching hours, and feedback will land differently. After teaching a practicum, you will receive challenging yet encouraging feedback and suggestions for applying that information into your teaching.
• Completion of 200-hour YTT
• Attendance in two of Laura’s and two of Tatyana’s classes before commencement of the program; as well as three more of each of their classes over the duration of the mentorship
• Teaching yoga for at least six months or have taught at least 10 group classes
• 35 hours of Yoga Alliance Continuing Education (CEU) credits
• Personalized homework for growth as both a practitioner and teacher
• Feedback to apply to your teaching moving forward
Commitment: One Friday per month from 11:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. at Coolidge Corner Yoga.
Dates: January 19th, February 16th, March 2nd, March 16th, April 13th, May 4th and May 18th.
Self Investment: $700 Payment Plan (5 monthly payments of $150). All workshops are non-refundable.
