Featch-ah Teach-ah: Stephen Kirsch

Where are you from and how long have you been in Boston?
I'm originally from the suburbs of Philadelphia, and spent a long time living in Philly. I moved to Boston from NYC about two and a half years ago.

What was your first yoga class like?
A good friend of mine in Philly had recently quit the restaurant where we had both been working to teach yoga full time, and invited me to take a class she was teaching out of her apartment. The peak pose of the class was Hanumanasana, which was quite a stretch for a first time yogi! However I never forgot the sense of peace and inner connection I felt as I left her class.

What’s your favorite pose to teach?
I love teaching Parivrtta Trikonasana. The IT band stretch is a doozy, but it requires balance, strength and stability as well as openness…I love how all those things come together in this pose.

As a practitioner, what pose makes you cringe?
Navasana! I have such a hard time with this pose.

Where can we find you when you’re off your mat?
Walking my dogs Sawyer and Finnegan or reading a book with a cup of coffee.

What’s your favorite or the most random song on your class playlist right now?
"Nocturne" by SubtractiveLAD. This song is so beautiful and calming, and I often play it near the end of class or during Savasana.
