Featch-ah Teach-ah: Johnathon Holmes

Where are you from and how long have you been in Boston?
I am originally from Rhode Island and I have been living in Boston for about 4 years now.

What was your first yoga class like?
My first yoga class was an Iyengar class at my gym - I only decided to go because my colleagues at the time thought I would like it. I had no idea what I was in for - 2 blocks, 2 blankets, a strap and 2 hours later I was in complete awe of what I had just experienced. I was sore in places I didn't know you could be sore and I couldn't wait to go back.

What’s your favorite pose to teach?
Eka Pada Galavasana (Flying Pigeon) - it's a pretty intense hip opener and an arm balance. It's one of those poses that requires equal parts strength and flexibility, so everyone can find something to work on in it. (I mean...that's kind of true of all yoga poses, right?)

As a practitioner, what pose makes you cringe?
Revolved Triangle (Parivrtta Trikonasana) ... or revolved anything really. Just the thought of this pose brings a little tear to my eye.

Where can we find you when you’re off your mat?
Most likely sipping on an iced coffee walking down Newbury Street.

What’s your favorite or the most random song on your class playlist right now?
My favorite song on my playlist right now is "Chapter Of the Forest," by Trevor Hall. SO good.
