When not at CCY I am usually outside with my 2 pit bulls, Harley and Roscoe. I spend a lot of time with them at Blue Hills hiking :)

Where are you from and what brought you to Boston?
I am originally from Winchester, MA. After 13 years of moving around and living in Vermont, Utah, France, Germany, London, and California I finally got home sick and moved back about a year and a half ago. I definitely did not move back for these amazing winters …. my entire family lives in the area and it made me sad to watch my niece and nephews grow up on Facebook, I wanted to be closer so I would be a bigger presence in their lives :)

Fun fact about you?
I went to school for art education and I love to oil paint.

Latest Yoga breakthrough?
Being able to sit still.

What has been the most rewarding aspect of being behind the desk?
Being part of the CCY community has been life changing for me. I love interacting with clients and staff. Everyone has such an amazing journey and I enjoy hearing and talking to people about their experiences.

Feach-a Teach-a: Elyssa Schneider

What was your first yoga class like?

Ha! It was in high school gym class, and I hated it! All I remember is our gym teacher placing her hand in front of our bellies to tell us that we were breathing wrong! I tried again in college and fell in love - the practice helped rescue me from the perils of life as a Type A, exercise-obsessed college student. My personal practice has morphed tremendously over the years but it has stayed with me ever since!elyssa schneidar

What’s your favorite pose to teach?

I love the first moments of collective breathing on the mat, and the shift of energy that happens in that moment. Lately, I love teaching an extended Goddess pose, which really forces connection with the breath in a moment of physical exertion - something useful for all of us, but especially for my prenatal students!!! And the holding makes the subsequent movements that much more delicious!

As a practitioner, what pose makes you cringe?

As a former gymnast, I used to love wheel/dhanurasana, but have barely been able to do it since my second baby was born over a year ago - my whole body hurts when I attempt it, but I miss the extreme opening it can bring!

Where can we find you when you’re off your mat?

Teaching sixth grade Spanish, though mostly hanging with my 2 boys - Jayden is 3 "and 3/4," and Barrett is 14 months.

What’s your favorite or the most random song on your class playlist right now?

I've been on an instrumental kick for awhile now, and am a big fan of Garth Stevenson

Face Behind The Desk: Caity O'Hagan

What do you do when not the friendly face behind the desk?
When I’m not behind the desk or on my mat at CCY, I can usually be found in the Somerville or Cambridge area looking for a great vibe, place to eat or cup of coffee!11665409_10204780706697724_2652216865095549598_n

Where are you from and what brought you to Boston?
I am a New Englander through and through. I grew up just north of Boston, and moved into the city to attend Nursing school. I fell in love with the city life, and never left!

Fun fact about you?
I am about to become the very proud pet-momma to a 3 lb Chihuahua named Taco … if you’d like to get me excited, ask if you can see his picture.

Latest Yoga breakthrough?
Handstand!! Well, I haven’t exactly had a “breakthrough” but I’m certain that I will soon. Practicing this pose daily, and honing my ability to utilize uddiyana bandha has made a world of difference. I am closer than I have ever been to achieving this inversion and I think that’s worth celebrating!

What has been the most rewarding aspect of being behind the desk?
Hands down, the best part of my position behind the desk is being a part of the CCY community. All of the students, teachers and staff at this studio make my job so enjoyable; I truly love coming into work each morning!
