What do you do when not the friendly face behind the desk?
I am an elementary school teacher in Dorchester on weekdays and play Irish music in bars around Boston on the weekend. If you ever saw anyone playing an accordion in the front room of the Burren in Somerville that was most probably me!
Where are you from and what brought you to Boston?
I am from Ireland. I came to Boston two years ago with my wife, she's a native Bostonian and she'd had enough of the Irish summers. CCY has been a home away from home for me since I got here.
Fun fact about you?
I can drive stick shift!
Latest Yoga breakthrough?
Recently life has been hectic and I have not been making it to as many yoga classes as I would. I've had to find ways to incorporate yoga into my everyday life, like taking a few mindful breaths on my lunch break or feeling my feet on the earth while I am standing in the classroom with students. My breakthrough has been to realise that yoga can be a part of everything I do and isn't just a thing I do at the studio.
I might be the last person to realise this but we have hair ties behind the desk! It would have saved so many yoga classes for me if I'd known that sooner.
What has been the most rewarding aspect of being behind the desk?
The most rewarding aspect has definitely being able to put first time yogis at ease. People can come in feeling so apprehensive and it's to see them emerge from their first class inspired and ready to make yoga part of their lives!
