Gerard Samson

Gerard Samson is registered yoga teacher based in Boston and Brookline. He teaches a paced, structural, class with focused alignment and connection to the breath. Gerard completed his 200-hour yoga teacher training with Ame Wren at Boston Yoga School in 2014. He continues to be supported by Ame’s mentorship and teachings.

 

In addition to his yoga classes, Gerard is also a licensed massage therapist He enjoys working with individuals to assess and diagnose functional mobility problems and is adept at treating injuries and chronic pain issues. He is skilled in reading and interpreting the structural patterns of bodies, and through this creates specific and targeted treatments for his clients. Gerard’s work is simultaneously deep and soothing. He is passionate about solving the puzzles the body presents, and empowering individuals to know themselves from the inside out.

 

Gerard completed his massage and bodywork training at the Massage School in Boston. He has an integrative approach and uses many modalities, including Myo-fascial Release, deep tissue massage, Swedish massage, craniosacral therapy, and shiatsu. Additionally, he studied with Nicole Clark in the energetic and healing use of touch.

    While the turkey or (tofurkey) is in the oven join Gerard for a Thanksgiving flow that will leave you grounded and ready to fill your belly with friends family and food for the rest of your Holiday. The class will begin with some Pranayama to build the breath and bring warmth to the body. Following the breath practice will be a vigorous vinyasa flow to get the digestive fires going, with an extended savasana to carry you into your day.

  • Gentle Flow
  • This class is designed to use a combination of breath, meditation, asana, and gentle movement to aid in healthy aging, to gently introduce yoga movement to the body post injury, and for anyone generally looking to introduce gentle yoga movement into their life. Gentle Flow will encourage students to direct their focus inward while practicing accessible standing, seated, and reclined postures that support a connection to the breath, healthy range of motion, balanced nervous system, and greater mind/body awareness. Students will experience less vigor in this class than in other flow classes, while being offered more movement than purely restorative and yin practices.

     

    We hope that students will leave each class feeling grounded and renewed, with a deeper sense of connection to self. All levels and abilities are welcome.


  • Vinyasa Yoga
  • Vinyasa Yoga is a vigorous yoga class that moves through poses with the pace of your breath. The class is designed for all levels with modifications offered to take the class at your own level and ability on any given day. The sequence of each class will build towards a challenging peak pose(s) to stimulate both the beginner and advanced practitioner as well as the kid at heart. This class will be sweaty and fun and will challenge students of all levels.


  • Vinyasa
  • Vinyasa Yoga is a vigorous yoga class that moves through poses with the pace of your breath. The class is designed for all levels with modifications offered to take the class at your own level and ability on any given day. The sequence of each class will build towards a challenging peak pose(s) to stimulate both the beginner and advanced practitioner as well as the kid at heart. This class will be sweaty and fun and will challenge students of all levels.


  • Core Flow
  • Core Flow will restore and strengthen all muscles in the core. The class is suitable for all levels and will consist of breath work to engage deep abdominal muscles, yoga poses linked to breath which activate and condition the core, as well as deep stretching and strengthening of the muscles that work closely together with the core to achieve maximal benefit.


  • FUNdamentals
  • New to yoga, or looking to get back to the basics? Yoga FUNdamentals provides both the beginning student and the seasoned practitioner a place to focus on common postures and transitions, that lay the foundation for Hatha yoga. Classes will focus on alignment and will include imaginative strength building exercises to prepare the muscles for the intensity of the major yoga asanas included in a vinyasa flow class. Expect clear instruction and individual assistance, as well as music to keep the environment light and playful. You don't need to be able to touch your toes in this class… all you need is an open mind & heart.


  • Restorative Yoga
  • In this class, students will focus on longer-hold postures that are supported by bolsters, blankets, and yoga blocks to help sustain them. This class aids in slowing down, restoring the body’s natural rhythms, and is physically and mentally grounding.

  • FUNdamentals
  • New to yoga, or looking to get back to the basics?   • Slow Flow
  • Slow Flow is a mindful practice offering practitioners more opportunity to linger in postures and evaluate the body, its alignment, ease of breath, or useful modifications. Not just for beginners, slow flow will provide space for deeper connection to each posture with longer holds allowing for deeper mind body connection. While slow moving, be prepared for challenge and building internal heat.

  • Restorative Yoga

  • Peaceful Warriors: Yoga for Boys (Thurs 4:30 - 5:30 p.m.)
  • Peaceful Warriors (boys ages 8-12) can help boys find ease and balance in their busy schedules and complement their other athletic activities. Peaceful Warriors will promote both inner and outer strength through a mixture of playful yoga sequences, balance exercises (on hands and feet), martial arts, and restorative yoga postures with deep relaxation. All of this will be offered in a safe, be-yourself, no judgment environment.
     
    Fall 2018: September 20 - January 24 (16 sessions)

The sequence of each class will build towards a challenging peak pose(s) to stimulate both the beginner and advanced practitioner as well as the kid at heart. This class will be sweaty and fun and will challenge students of all levels.

  • Yin Yoga
  • Yin Yoga is a quiet, meditative practice that uses long-held passive poses to enhance and renew the body’s vital energy, prevent joint rigidity and immobility, and nourish the body at the cellular level. Yin aids with digestion, muscle repair, organ detoxification and emotional processing. The long held postures allow the connective tissue (ligaments, tendons, joints, and fascia) to strengthen, and with a consistent practice you will notice postural improvement, increased ease in movement and an overall balanced being. This is the perfect complimentary practice to any strength building or cardio exercise as well as an active Yang or vinyasa practice. It is also great for anyone recovering from injury or illness and pre or post -natal. Please note that this class is held at room temperature to increase the effectiveness of the practice - socks are welcome.
